It doesn't matter how many times our parents, teachers and bosses tell us to get to work, we all love Netflix and Reddit way too much to listen. Even if we didn't, we'd put off our responsibilities to the last minute anyway, because living life on the edge is just so much more satisfying. Adults may not love it, but we're pretty sure that's the virtuous way to handle responsibility—procrastination is being patient enough to get things done at the very last minute, and they do say that patience is a virtue! If you've mastered the art of laziness and procrastination, put off whatever you're supposed to be doing and check out these memes instead...they're absolutely hilarious and will have you screaming, "SAME!"
15 Why focus when you can Reddit?
Everyone who's ever been on Reddit knows this struggle. There's a reason the site calls itself the "front page of the internet"—there's something on there for virtually anyone! Just look up any topic you're interested in learning more about or debating, and there's likely a subreddit filled with discussion threads focused on that topic. That's why every time we go on Reddit, we look at the clock and discover that three hours have gone by and we've forgotten all about the outside world and the responsibilities awaiting us there.
Sometimes, we'll close out of the site so we can actually get things done, open up a new tab...and then immediately find ourselves right back on Reddit. Whoops! We know it's an addiction, but it's one we'll try getting rid of some other time.
14 Tomorrow probably won't be that day either, TBH
Our parents and teachers love giving us big speeches about the importance of preparing for upcoming exams and assignments, and we're tired of it! Just leave us alone already...as long as things get done, who cares if we started working at the last possible second? Some day, we're going to fight back with an epic speech of our own—specifically, one based on King Aragorn's battle speech at the Black Gate in The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. We'll stand up on our desk or couch and shout for those annoying adults to hear, "a day may come when I start my assignments...but it is NOT this day!" Maybe then they'll finally get off our backs and let us procrastinate in peace.
13 Procrastination level: EXPERT
Procrastination is just way too easy for kids these days. They've got cell phones, iPads, Netflix, four different Arrowverse shows to watch, a million different video games and gaming consoles...it's just not fair. We've been putting things off our whole lives, and we didn't have half of those distractions to keep us busy and avoiding work when we were younger! That's why we just roll our eyes when kids claim they're procrastination experts. Please, like Bane here says, they merely adopted the art of avoiding responsibilities. We've been procrastinating since birth! We were born lazy, molded by our laziness and never got anything done until we reached high school. Even then, we only did the bare minimum to get by. Don't mess with the OG procrastinators!
12 Putting things off is the wise thing to do
Only we can call ourselves procrastinators. When other people try to call us out for our skill at waiting until we absolutely have to do something to start doing it, we deny it like it's our job. If you're looking for a way to expertly excuse your laziness, look no further than this hilarious Ron Burgundy meme—you're not procrastinating, you're just putting your responsibilities off for as long as possible because then once you start, you'll be older and therefore wiser! No one will be able to beat the sound logic found in that statement—if an adult tries, you can accuse them of implying that age doesn't bring wisdom, and if that's the case, they're not necessarily wiser than you and you shouldn't have to listen to them!
11 Challenge accepted
Procrastinators are pretty much all cat people, because we identify with cats on a deep and spiritual level. Sure, dogs are often friendlier and more playful, but cats are just like us in that they're lazy, they like to be pampered and they often put their own happiness before the happiness of others. That's why we absolutely love this meme—like us, the shocked cat here doesn't seem to understand the word "procrastination," and believes it's just a fancy synonym for "challenge." Too true! Why do something now when you can watch some TV, play some video games and text your friends beforehand? Sure, you're then giving yourself less time to accomplish things, but if there's even a chance you can have some fun and finish that paper before its deadline, it's worth a shot!
10 You have to find the right font before you can start, right?!
Even when you shut down your internet connection to eliminate potential distractions and open up Microsoft Word, there are plenty of ways to procrastinate effectively. You can play around with titles for your big paper, you can mess with spacing and sizing to make your paper look longer than it really is, and there's the font to consider before you can really get to work. Are you going to go with the classic Times New Roman, or live life on the edge and opt for a more daring font like Comic Sans? There are just so many options, and you can't possibly get to work until you've tested out every possibility! After an hour on Word, a true procrastinator's paper will probably look just like SpongeBob's in this meme.
9 Laziness comes with instant rewards
There are a few reasons to finish a paper as soon as it's assigned or study for a test long before you have to. Working hard right away means you can potentially relax and have a bit of time to do some things you enjoy afterwards, without fear of upcoming deadlines or looming responsibilities. However, those are just possibilities—it's also possible that you'll freak out over whether or not your paper is good enough or you're sufficiently prepared for that exam, and you won't end up with any free time at all! When you're lazy, life is just so much better because laziness comes with the immediate payoff of fun and relaxation. That's why the choice between working hard and procrastinating is a no-brainer. Why take the potential for future happiness over guaranteed, immediate happiness?!
8 Ah yes, we relate to this dilemma
This stressed college student in this meme is totally all of us. In the morning, we convince ourselves that we should put off doing any sort of schoolwork until the evening, when we're more active and mentally awake. But then, nighttime comes, and we realize that we're too tired to think straight and it'd thus be better to do work in the morning when we're fresh. It's a never-ending cycle, which inevitably leads to nothing ever getting done, and it's definitely not our fault—there just isn't enough time in the day for us to take care of our responsibilities and enjoy ourselves, and even if there were, there simply isn't a time where both our brains and our bodies are willing and able to get things done!
7 Why do work when your bed is so comfortable?
Sometimes, life just throws way too much at you at once. Towards the end of the semester, there can be times when you have several papers to write, countless assignments to complete and a bunch of tests to study for, and there's no possible way you can get everything done! Okay, sure, you probably didn't help matters by waiting until the last minute to even start thinking about your workload...but still. That's just too much work, and staying in bed regretting your procrastination and poor life choices sounds a lot more enjoyable than getting out from under your blankets and actually starting to do all of that work. We can't really relate to Kim Kardashian on many things, but we can definitely sympathize with her struggles in this meme.
6 You have to reward yourself sometimes
Congratulations, you finally got out of bed, got dressed and started to get to it! After some time, you completed one of the 20 assignments that needs finishing in the next 24 hours, and while we suppose you could stay on that right track and keep working...we think you've earned yourself a nice reward! Go outside, have some fun, play with friends, go for a drive, whatever. Tasks two through 20 will still be there when you get back, and you can finish them up when you're done enjoying yourself. If need be, you can sacrifice a bit of sleep. Then again, sleep is great. Maybe you can have fun, go to sleep, and just finish everything the morning it's due. That sounds better, right?!
5 How...is this even possible?
Procrastination isn't always as easy as we make it look. Sometimes, you're all caught up on your TV shows, you're tired of your video games, all your friends are busy and you've rung the Reddit well dry. So what else is there to do but actually, you know, do some work? This guy thought of a truly innovate procrastination-enabler—open up that can of Pringles you're saving to snack on, and instead of mindlessly jamming them into your mouth, try stacking them in a perfect ring! Such a seemingly impossible feat is sure to take up at least a few hours, and by the time you're done, maybe then you'll be up for doing some homework. If not, you can waste some time eating those Pringles until you are.
4 The hills are alive with the sound of laziness
Remember that iconic scene in Sound of Music where Maria was running around in a field without a care, singing about how the hills were alive and other crazy stuff? Yeah, that's pretty much what we look like when we have our papers and assignments sprawled all over our bedrooms and no clue whatsoever how to finish all of them in time. Instead of buckling down and actually putting effort into decreasing our dreaded workload, we just dance around our cluttered rooms frantically and try not to cry over how horrible our lives are. Would it be possible for us to hire a governess to do some of this work for us, or to at least sing about some of our favorite things until our sorrows go away?
3 Dory knows our struggle to focus on work
Dory from Finding Nemo struggled with some serious attention deficit issues, and couldn't seem to focus on anything. We definitely know all about that life. Every weekend, we pop in a DVD of our favorite Supernatural season with the goal of only watching one episode before finally getting to work, then suddenly we discover that we've watched the whole series again and it's already Monday morning. Our parents and teachers can't really blame us...the Winchesters can't save people and hunt things if we aren't there to watch them, and the fate of the world is definitely more important than schoolwork! Maybe if they could figure out a way to make homework as fun to look at as Sam and Dean are, we wouldn't be so easily distracted.
2 Can't teachers just let us hang with friends all day?
We all look forward to summer vacation, because it means fun in the sun and a break from all the exams and assignments which stressed us out for the past several months. As much as we love getting to sit around and watch Netflix for weeks on end, the long break gets pretty boring after a while, especially if all of your friends vacation out of town and you're left alone with no one to talk to but your parents. Come the end of August, you're eager for school to get back in session...but not for the return of all of that school work. Come on, teachers, is there no way for us to just go to school and not have to do anything when we're there?!
1 Figuring out how to avoid work is hard work
Putting off schoolwork until the last second is tough, but you've been mastering that art for years now. Putting off work at work is much more difficult, especially if you're trying to keep your job and do well enough to possibly get a promotion and make some real money. Don't let that difficulty force you to give up on your love for procrastination! You can totally get away with doing next to nothing, just like you've been doing successfully your whole life. You just need to figure out how to make it look like you've been doing something important. If you spend the whole day determining how to appear to have accomplished something, you can surely think of something and spend the last few minutes on the job putting your plan into action.
