An exhibition of talent at science fair in Pondicherry

PONDICHERRY: The four-day science exhibition, which began on Wednesday, on the sprawling campus of the Amalorpavam Higher Secondary School in Pondicherry brings to the fore the innate talents and hidden capability of the students.
A team of officials from the Tamil Nadu Science and Technology Centre in Chennai brought a mobile planetarium unit and explained to students in simulated atmosphere about various celestial bodies and solar and lunar eclipses.
A total of 27 rooms have been converted temporarily into scientific chambers with a total of 270 stalls with different thematic details attracting the visitors. Students explain to visitors the highlights of their gadgets.
Antonios Britto a lecturer in the school said there was enthusiastic response from the children as soon as the idea to have the fair was put forth before them. There are stalls highlighting techniques of conversion of seawater into potable water and importance of alternative and renewable sources of energy.
Philatelic and numismatics sections also attracted a large number of visitors. Students from other institutions made a beeline to the fair, which would come to a close on Saturday.
Teachers also displayed a collection of pictures of leading scientists and inventors.
Prizes would be awarded for every level of classes. The Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy, declared open the fair.
